THIS eagle ray lived up to its name as it leaps into the air to escape a hammerhead shark.
Snapped by a tourist in the waters off the coast of Panama, the ray leapt into the air in a bid to reach the safety of the sands of Zapatila Island.

The ray managed to save its life by beaching itself momentarily, before being sucked back out to sea by the next wave.

Camerman Ralph De Bie, from Amsterdam, was on a surf trip with friends when he captured the epic battle.

He said: “The shark tried to come all the way up the beach but couldn’t get far enough.

“It all ended well, and we were so excited by the fight we ended up forgetting about the surfing.”
