Somewhere, in the depths of the oceans, something was devouring an enormous great white shark.
A nine-foot and a half-ton great white shark was captured off the northeast coast of the United States by a group of scientists with the Data Collection Organization, OCEARCH told The Charlotte Observer.
The team of researchers named the creature “Vimy”. What surprised the OCEARCH group the most is that Vimy had two large bite marks, on her body and on her head. Experts say the marks are likely from an even larger shark.
Vimy was caught and cataloged on October 4th. This amazing creature weighs nearly half a ton, leading researchers to speculate which creature surpassed this shark’s power. Vimy was later returned to the ocean. However, because it is catalogued, researchers with OCEARCH can continue to monitor it.
Experts in the field believe that Vimy was fighting another male shark for a female, and lost, or he was trying to mate with a larger female that attacked him, resulting in the bite marks. Mating between sharks can be extremely violent, which makes it very likely that these bites end up being part of the ritual.
The researchers estimate that the shark that bit Vimy was at least two feet larger, giving it a total length of four and a half meters. “It was clear that something had snapped its entire head,” founding researcher OCEARCH Chairman Chris Fischer told The Charlotte Observer.
You need to see Vilmyl’s photo showing his wounds to understand the severity of the bites. After seeing and being impressed by the photo, don’t forget to share it with your friends and family to impress them too.
