That’s what they say: one day of the hunt, another day of the hunter. A video captured by a vehicle operated remotely from a vessel recorded a scene that proved the popular saying almost unintentionally.
After identifying a topographic elevation more than 450 meters deep in the middle of the ocean, the crew sent the Deep Discoverer equipment to get a clearer image of what they believed to be a sunken ship.
However, the images recorded the scene of a school of sharks devouring the carcass of a huge swordfish. The scene is frantic and the sharks take turns taking generous bites of the fish.
In the images, sharks appear and disappear around the swordfish carcass, which was about eight feet long. According to the record of the underwater equipment, there were at least 11 sharks enjoying the “fresh meat”.
And when talking about sea predators, it’s hard for sharks not to appear at the top of the list. But in this case, the images would still register the real hunter of the moment.
For this nobody expected
More precisely at minute 1:45, when another fish, which the crew believes to be a large grouper, due to the shape of its fins and the rest of its body, appears to be snapping up completely, in a single and accurate movement, one of the sharks that , until then, was only concerned with waiting his turn to remove a “crust” from the swordfish carcass.
Everything happens in a fraction of seconds and the grouper calmly swims among the other sharks. Boldness that calls, right? The species filmed mercilessly devouring the shark can reach up to 100 kilos and live 70 years.
